Deze bijzondere microlot komt van Rubirizi Hill, net ten oosten van Gaharo. De koffiebessen worden geleverd aan het Bukeye Washing Station, gebouwd in januari 2013 door Long Miles Coffee.

Het station wordt geleid door Agathon Ininahazwe, die verantwoordelijk is voor de innovatieve aanpak waar Bukeye om bekendstaat. Hier begon het allereerste Coffee Scout-programma: agronomen ondersteunen duizenden lokale boeren met kennis over teelt, oogst en verzorging. Bukeye fungeert ook als uitvalsbasis voor een grootschalig biologisch pesticideprogramma tegen de kleurrijke antestia-kever (bekend van het ‘potato defect’) en campagnes voor snoeien, mulchen en bemesting.

Het station telt 113 toegewijde medewerkers. Tijdens het hoogtepunt van de oogst brengen boeren uit Rubirizi hun koffiebessen naar het station. Elke levering wordt geregistreerd via het Long Miles ‘farmer card’-systeem, waarmee de herkomst van de beste koffie nauwkeurig wordt bijgehouden. De oogstperiode begint meestal in april en is afgerond tegen juni of juli.

This unique microlot comes from Rubirizi Hill, located just east of Gaharo. The cherries are delivered to Bukeye Washing Station, built in January 2013 by Long Miles Coffee.

The station is managed by Agathon Ininahazwe, who oversees the innovative approach that Bukeye is known for. It’s where the very first Coffee Scout program was launched—providing agronomic support to thousands of local farmers. Bukeye also serves as a hub for a large-scale organic pesticide campaign targeting the colorful antestia bug (linked to the potato defect), as well as pruning, mulching, and fertilizing initiatives.

Bukeye Washing Station employs 113 dedicated staff members. During the harvest peak, farmers from Rubirizi deliver their cherries to the station, where each contribution is tracked through the Long Miles farmer card system. This traceability helps ensure the highest quality coffee. Harvest season typically starts in April and is completed by June or July.
