The fully washed coffee lot is from GISEZERWA part of GASURA washing station surrounding

breadbasket of Burundi with five beautiful wide lakes: COHOHA, RWERU, RWIHINDA

Gasura is one of the 7 wet mills that operates in Northern East area of Burundi in KIRUNDO
province. This wet mill located at an altitude of 1665m with 1500-1800mm per year such as
average rainfall of the region. The region is known for growing coffee especially Arabica
coffee red bourbon variety.
During the 2022-2023, the wet mill received coffee cherries from 400 coffee growers from
the hills CANIKA, MUTUKURA, VUMBI, KAVUMO, KIRARO, BURARANA; they are organized
within a cooperative of farmers named « TERIMBERE » in Kirundi, which means “LET’S
MOVE FORWARD”.
In the logic of women empowerment, we involve most of women from Gasura in coffee
production and encourage them to take part in the society development. Women are much
involved in coffee plantation from seed to harvest. We strongly encourage them to take part
of coffee production activities during the harvest season on Gasura washing station.
The farmers bring the red ripe cherries separated from under ripe cherries, over ripe
cherries, and foreign matter. The cherries are delivered to the wet mill the same day they
are picked. The picked cherries must be selected for eliminating the floating by waterline
before pulping. Coffee beans are fermented for 14 hours, washed in water collected by
gravitation from a water source and sorted when pre drying, dried on beds during a period 2
weeks to 3weeks.The parchment is then stored in cleaned and well-ventilated warehouse
with humidity of 11-12 before processed in dry milling. At the dry milling specialty coffee is
produced with 86+ SCA score.
